In short: You can import many customers at once from a CSV or Excel file. One file can add customers to lists, assign them to agents and fill in custom fields. Start from Mumble’s sample file so the column names are right.
Prepare the file
- full_name: the customer’s name.
- phone: required. See the phone rules below.
- country_code: two letters, for example IL, US or GB.
- email and description: optional.
- label_name: the list to add the customer to. Separate several lists with commas.
- agent_name: must match the name of an existing agent.
Any other column becomes a custom customer field.
Phone number rules
Use one of these two ways:
- Full international number without +, for example 972501234567. Leave country_code empty.
- Local number, for example 0501234567, with a two-letter country_code, for example IL. Mumble converts it to the international format.
A local number without a country code fails. In Excel, set the phone column to Text so leading digits aren’t dropped. More in International Phone Number Format.
Import the file
- Go to Customers and click the purple +.
- Choose Sample file if you need the template, or Import new customers if your file is ready.
- Choose your file.
- Match each column in your file to a Mumble field. The phone column is required.
- Confirm. When it’s done, you see how many customers were added and how many were skipped.
Before you send a campaign
- Import only people who agreed to get WhatsApp messages from you. Imported customers are marked as allowed to receive messages by default. See Opt-Out and Blacklist.
- A big list can go over your Meta messaging limit. Split it with the scissors icon on the lists page and send over several days. See WhatsApp Messaging Limits.
Common questions
Some rows show an invalid phone number
The number is a local number without a country code, or it isn’t a real number. Fix it using the phone rules above and import those rows again.
What happens to customers who already exist?
Their details are updated from the file, except the phone number, which can’t be changed by import. Duplicate numbers inside the file are skipped.
Hebrew or other text shows as gibberish
Save the CSV as UTF-8. In Excel, use Save As and choose CSV UTF-8.
